about crown & heart

Hi. I’m Sara Kharatyan, the owner, designer, and maker of Crown & Heart. I live in Parkville, a suburb of Kansas City, with my husband, two boys, and pup.

I started making porcelain jewelry in the summer of 2017. I have always identified as an artist, but I’ve found myself drawn to many different mediums and techniques over the years. Drawing, painting, printmaking, graphic design, ceramics, and fibers have all piqued my interest at different times in life. I chose to pursue a degree in art education and share my love of art with children. I spent 10 years working full time in an elementary art classroom before deciding to put more energy into developing my own creative endeavors. At that point, Crown & Heart was born. The name of my business is an ode to my maiden family name: Crownhart.

I began to experiment with some ideas for a jewelry line that combined my passions for painting and ceramics. I wanted to create pieces that were whimsical and unexpected: statement jewelry that was fun to wear and completely unique in both designs, materials, and the way they were combined. Many of my ideas come from the same sources of inspiration I used to to design projects for my elementary students, so many of my pieces are colorful, playful, and full of joy! When people ask me what inspires me, I just say, “life!” Over the years, I’ve developed a wide collection of wearable art, from elevated everyday pieces to bold conversation pieces.

My hope is that my jewelry will bring joy to those who wear it. My work is personal and I feel very lucky to get to share it with the world and call it my job. Each piece of porcelain is hand formed by me, hand painted by me, and assembled by my in my home studio. It is truly a labor of love from start to finish, and I hope you enjoy your wearable art as much as I enjoy making it.
